Terrible Twos

So what? My kid hits. He will say LOVE YOU and then hit, he will play fetch with Razz then hit him for having the stick.

...oh joy.

21 months has come upon us and brought with it the terrible twos.

Evan likes to hit. He is not doing it to show aggression or anger...he does it because he thinks it is HILARIOUS! Time out did not work for this. When we did timeouts 2 days consistently and time out was over...WHACK another hit, when you tell him he was in time out for hitting he smiles and WHACK hits you again while busting out laughing as if you were tickling him.

We are trying approach # 3, (approach #2 was mommy yelling, really didn't work and it was quite comical because well....he was just sticking his tongue out at me and making me laugh...then he would hit again)...so approach #3 has a successful streak so we are going with it for now...

#3 grab both hands and say calmly "It hurts (insert victim's name here) when you hit, we do not hit". He seems to get it and because his arms are restrained he doesn't whack you when you say HIT...I think the word hit to him perks him up because he now knows what HIT means...so WHACK...as if you are saying KISS he would kiss you...to him it is exciting because he understands the language we have been speaking to him for 21 months.

So, there is my update on Evan...with total honesty and no sugar coating it.

Any volunteers to babysit?
